oneVillage Foundation initiated this process seeing that its mission sought to encourage a approach to sustainability that is linked to global cooperation between regions rather than simply an either/or global local approach. In that vein, OVF has sought to promote a local approach to sustainability for the Bay Area that was in line with its work to promote sustainable development in Africa and other regions of the world.
Bay Area Sustainable Action is designed to facilitate a process of regional sustainable development. Such an effort aspires to translate into and foster practical actions locally. This includes promoting a global dialog between regions that leads to a sharing of best practices seeing the complementary role that regions can play in helping each other to rise to their fullest potential.
Mission:
Promote sustainable development in the Bay Area through a variety of integrated strategies as part of a coordinated global network of actions. This includes the threading together of various local initiatives and approaches focused and dedicated to promoting community oriented sustainable development in the region and working with various local and international groups as part of this process. Through this process the goals are twofold: the facilitate a comprehensive and integrated planning and development methodology in the region and to do through the development of a physical convergence point demonstrating the practical viability of sustainable development best practices.
Vision Statement:
Facilitate a better integration of human, financial and technological knowledge networks. This includes bringing the mindsets of diverse groups in the Bay Area together towards a more unified and effective practice of promoting and replicating sustainable development in the Bay Area.
This process will lead to the eventual development of a template that can be applied to other regions. This may include a consultative role to other regions of the world to development comprehensive sustainable development strategies for each region.
Theme:
Silicon Valley/Bay Area has a unique and key role to play in this process in the promotion of sustainable development globally.
Just as Silicon Valley accelerated our global movement into the Information Age, it is possible for the Bay Area to accelerate our global movement into the Consciousness/Accountability Age. This shows potential for helping to catalyze such a movement. There is a compelling need for such a group in relation to action oriented, human scale sustainable development.
SV/BA first needs to transform itself to suit by learning from the work of others around the world in order to be a model for others globally. Adapting to the new emerging framework of sustainable development is vital in order for the region to thrive in the 21st century and continue to play an influential role in national and global society/economy. This includes the incorporation on a practical level the concept of collective intelligence to enable humanity to address world urgent issues and in the process most fully realize the potential of every human engaged in this experiment to uplift humanity to a higher and more evolved state of existence.
Goals:
- Design ‘thinking’ groups that examine best practices from around the world and feature interesting people and perspectives within the sustainabilty movement.
- Publish a Newsletter about activities and distribute relevant information about our approach to sustainable development to interested groups in the region.
- Participate at world summits and also national and regional events to discuss results and organize local events to promote replication of successful practical actions that have a positive local impact.
- Link together regional NGOs, governments and businesses to promote a more integrated and comprehensive approach to sustainability that leads to more rapid replication of sustainable development.
- Take practical, locally based actions to promote sustainable development around selected best practices including the development of physical convergence point in the Bay Area dedicated to promoting socially and ecologically responsible development.
