Basic Concept Idea for Moving Forward on a Proposal for a Integrated EcoCentre & Complementary Virtual Commons Collaboration Space in the SF Bay Area
Background: For the Earth based approach we want to develop an architecture for promoting sustainable technologies and complementary to this, develop an integrated EcoCentre model that incorporates best practices in our network in a very practical and entrepreneurial way and builds on existing ecovillage and sustainability networks.
For the longer view considering space travel, the goal of EcoCentre is similar to the ill-fated Biosphere 2; develop a better understanding of how the ecology works and can be modified to sustain human indefinitely in closed environment with very little resupply of the basics like air and water.
Vision: What is coming together is outstanding and relates to a lot of what OVF is trying to move towards and the general orientation of our network. Indeed the general design itself and the principles this develop the Ecocenter concept is based on, makes a powerful statement in itself in terms of bringing the human community together in a way that that juxtaposes various best practices into seamless, comprehesive, heavily localized approaches that further amplify the human potential and desire, increasing the level of human collective intelligence to solve world urgent issues in a timely fashion to prevent unprecedented human and ecological crises.
Key Features/Components:
- Portal – Create a web portal space to further augment and make obvious the need to work together to integrate these technologies coming together and converging in our networks to serve the greater purpose of humanity’s self-realization and unfolding.
- SkunkWorks – Create a localized work space to inspire and facilitate rapid innovation and development of hardware for rapidly replicating a sustainable world
- MediaLab – Create a state of the art media and internet research facility to enable the rapid dissemination of sustainable technologies.
The idea for the center or this global network of centers, is that we would design it/them as augmentation spaces. This concept in itself similar to the vision of Arcosanti in that the architecture and social architecture would be designed to maximize human potential and to in that process effectively complement and synergize with the digital infrastructure and network. This is what the Unity Center vision put forward by OVF is all about.
